Call Sullivan Co Mayor Steve Godsey and demand he apologize for attacking the NBA's Jason Collins for coming out!

Timesnews.net is reporting that Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey used a National Day of Prayer event to preach against the NBA's Jason Collins for coming out and against President Obama for calling to congratulate Collins. Mayor Godsey said,
Mayor Steve Godsey from the Sullivan Co website

" It really and truly just irritates me to the point I just, you know ... on the TV all week long we are celebrating an NBA player coming out as a devout homosexual and him getting a call from the president of the United States — the most free ... God bestowed more grace on this country than any other country in the world. And yet we have a president that calls and congratulates and commends a guy (as if) he’s a national hero for coming out of the closet, per se. How disgraceful is that?"

Our public officials should serve all their citizens including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender citizens and their allies. Mayor Godsey's comments were an attempt to pit Evangelical Christians against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and allied people. He should apologize and make sure everyone knows he is there to serve everyone.

Call his office and demand that he apologize for attacking Jason Collins for having the courage to come out and tell him that Sullivan County government should serve all citizens, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their allies.

The number is  (423) 323-6417.

It's bad enough that he feels these comments are justified. To make them and not even get the man's name right is just more disrespectful than anyone deserves.
